This educational kit on electricity was designed by the Discovery Channel School and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives for grades five through nine. The kit meets the National Science Education Standards. As a Touchstone Energy cooperative, Adams Electric makes this kit available to all middle/junior high schools in its service territory. If your school does not have a kit, it may request one.

Lessons taught in the lab meet Department of Education standards for the science curriculum.

Career Days

These explanations and career displays can be geared to help students at all grade levels understand the variety of career opportunities available at electric cooperatives.

Job Shadowing

Adams Electric encourages students to participate in job shadowing programs offered through their schools. Students from area schools follow an Adams Electric employee for a day getting get hands-on experience and seeing what is involved in that employee’s daily activities. Students are able to shadow an employee from one of the many job descriptions at the cooperative.

Internships

Adams Electric hires college students over the summer, or longer, to intern in one of its departments. By being an intern at the cooperative, students gain both in-depth job knowledge and exposure to a corporate work environment.

Newspapers in Education

Adams Electric supports the Newspapers in Education program in its service territory. This program provides newspapers to participating schools as an educational tool in the classroom. Another component is the Design-an-Ad contest sponsored by the newspapers. Students entering this contest are able to design a newspaper advertisement for a participating business. These ads then are published by the newspaper.

Mid-Atlantic Alliance of Cooperatives

Adams Electric has been involved in the youth component of the Mid-Atlantic Alliance of Cooperatives for many years. Several local one-day seminars and a statewide Summer Institute are held involving youth in Adams Electric’s service territory. This youth program teaches the cooperative way of doing business and focuses on building leadership skills.

Employee Involvement

Many Adams Electric employees volunteer their time helping with a variety of youth-related community organizations. Scouting, 4-H, church groups and sports of all kinds are among the many areas of involvement. We’re committed to youth!
