Youth Tour FAQsWho participates in the National Rural Electric Youth Tour? Each year, a group of about 1,500 students who just finished their junior year in high school represent electric cooperatives from as many as 43 states in Washington, D.C. for the National Rural Electric Youth Tour. When is the tour scheduled?Sunday, June 11, through Friday, June 18, 2010. How can I benefit by going? You get to meet a lot of people your age and have a great time. You will get to attend a youth rally and listen to a motivational speaker, meet with legislators on the Capitol lawn, visit landmarks and monuments, enjoy a dinner-theater, spend an evening on a Potomac River cruise/dance, plus much more. How are students chosen?Informal interviews are held with Adams Electric employees. A resume and a transcript of your grades are also considered. There are a limited number of openings. If you are chosen, you will be given background materials about Adams Electric and other electric cooperatives. A test on the materials will be given at an orientation meeting. How much does it cost to participate? The cost of your trip is paid by Adams Electric. The only money you need is for souvenirs and extra snacks. Where would I stay?Students and chaperones are housed at the Hyatt Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia. How do we travel to Washington?A charter bus leaves from Adams Electric's headquarters parking lot in Gettysburg on Sunday afternoon. It returns to the same location, the following Friday afternoon.
