Safety and Support

Electrical safety demonstrations are provided to school and civic groups, plus safety training is provided for local utility and emergency personnel. Training and demonstrations are provided with permanent high-voltage safety exhibits set up at each of the co-op's district offices in Gettysburg, Shippensburg and York. Adams Electric educates emergency service providers on the proper handling of electrical emergencies. High-voltage demonstrations focus on the dangers of playing and working near electrical lines and equipment. The cooperative also has a traveling mini high-voltage safety display, and can supply speakers to discuss specific procedures involving electrical safety.

Safety DVD

Adams Electric distributes a safety video to state police, local police, fire and emergency management services departments in the cooperative's four-county service territory. The 12-minute video, titled "Cold Facts About Hot Wires," offers tips on the proper use of generators, how to handle vehicle accidents involving electric lines and how to safely handle an electrical power interruption. Some of the tips are based on experiences of Adams Electric's line crews in the field, and offer valuable insights into how first responders and anyone else can deal with electrical emergencies.

Dry Hydrant Program

Adams Electric's program offers dry hydrant kits to approved non-profit organizations. The cooperative has also created a Dry Hydrant Manual to facilitate proper installation. Adams Electric assists fire companies and other civic organizations by digging holes and setting poles for fire sirens, signs, lights for athletic fields, and other projects.

Safety Lights

Adams Electric will donate one free street light to townships and boroughs in its service territory to help them illuminate dark intersections near Adams Electric lines. Adams installs the light, and maintains and provides electricity to it free of charge for five years.
