Hurricane Irene News and Updates

August 28, 4:30 a.m. All available Adams Electric crews have been working outages along with contracting and tree clearing crews since midnight as Hurricane Irene hits south-central Pa. with rain and high winds. Outages are scattered across both Adams and York counties with parts of western and northern York County hardest hit.

6 a.m. All available employees responding to assist crews working to restore power. Call 1-800-726-2324 to report outages.

8 a.m. Work continues at Rossville and Brodbecks substations in York County after Met-Ed drops transmission feed to those facilities. To see how power is restored, visit Power Restoration Plan page at Storm Central.

Noon: Efforts continue to backfeed power to Rossville and Brodbecks substations in York County. Efforts are hampered by downed trees. Outages are scattered in lower Cumberland and Adams counties. Majority of outages remain in western and southern York County. Members are asked to plan for power interruptions lasting up to 24 hours. 3 p.m. Restoration efforts concentrate on York County where most power interruptions exist. Scattered outages in lower Cumberland and Adams counties. Adams Electric is working with its generation and transmission co-op most of the day to make the restoration of power delivery to Rossville and Brodbecks substations are priority with Met-Ed. Brodbecks sub back in service just prior to 3 p.m. Adams Electric crews will work until service is restored to all members. Those efforts may last until Monday afternoon.

5:45 p.m. While the Brodbecks Substation is back on line, the co-op is still working to get some of the feeders from that sub back into full operation. Crews are continuing to work on residual outages in the area. In the Rossville area, crews are working with Met-Ed to repair a connection that was dropped from their end and is effecting co-op members. We are optimistic that power could be restored here by midnight. We may be looking at another 12 hours until all major outages are repaired.

7 p.m. Co-op crews are still working to repair connections to about 2,400 members across York County, 1,100 of which are in and around Rossville. In addition, crews are continuing to work on about 200 power outages across Adams and Cumberland counties.

9:30 p.m. Just over 1,000 members are still without power on co-op lines. This includes about 800 in York County, 130 in Cumberland County and 75 in Adams County. Crews are continuing to work to get the lights back on for all members.

11 p.m. Crews will be working around-the-clock to put our members' power back into service. Currently about 790 members are waiting for service to return. Please continue to report power outages by calling 800/726-2324.

11:10 p.m. This will be the last web update for the evening. Postings will resume early Monday morning with an update on remaining outages. Until then, safe travels and operations to our crews continuing to work through the night.

August 29, 9:30 a.m. Down to about 400 out, mainly in York County, in hard to reach locations. Crews are replacing broken poles and equipment. Work will continue throughout the day.

Noon. Approximately 160 members are still without power following storms that swept through Adams Electric territory on Saturday and Sunday. The majority of members still waiting for power to return are located in York County, with about 120. In addition, 30 members in Adams County and five in Cumberland County are still without power. The largest outages remaining are near Dover, where both poles and wires need to be replaced, and in Hanover, where downed wires need to be repaired.

3 p.m. Less than 50 members are still experiencing power outages on co-op lines. The majority of these outages are in the York area in Hanover.

5 p.m. SAFETY BREAK ANNOUNCED: All crews will be pulled from the system at 8 p.m. for a much-needed safety rest. Restoration efforts have been ongoing since midnight Saturday, August 27, and most of the employees in the field will have been working for 44 hours straight at that point. Our apologies to the 40 or so members who remain without power. Restoration efforts will begin again at first light.

August 30, 8 a.m. Crews reported back to the field at 6 a.m. to restore power to five members who were reported to be without power. Crews will be busy throughout the day shoring up repairs and setting poles that were damaged by the storm.

Noon. All members reported back in service as of Tuesday morning. Met-Ed requests crews from Adams to assist in their restoration efforts. Adams crews cleaning up remaining storm damage.

Sept. 1, 10 a.m. Three two-man bucket crews left Adams Electric at 6 a.m. Thursday morning en route for Reading, Pa. The crews will be assisting Met-Ed line crews with restoring power to Metropolitan-Edison customers in that area.

Sept. 6, 10 a.m. Crews that were sent to Met-Ed to assist in restoring power were released yesterday to return home.
