Electric Thermal Storage Units (ETS)

Electric Thermal Storage room units are designed to use off-peak electricity for heating a home or business. During off-peak hours, when electricity costs are lower, an electric coil in the unit heats the high-density ceramic bricks inside. The bricks store heat for an extended period of time. The stored heat is released to warm the home during peak hours when rates are highest.

Will ETS save me money?  

Adams Electric Cooperative offers its members a special lower ETS rate on the electricity used by individual room, Heat Pump Plus or double loop (central) furnace ETS units. To qualify for the lower ETS rate, the units must be equipped with a cooperative-installed load control device. The device allows power to the heating units to be shut off during periods of high electricity demand (on-peak) as part of the cooperative's load management program. This control device costs you nothing to buy or install.   If you decide to connect other electric heating devices - such as electric baseboard heaters and an electric water heater - to the ETS service, the cost-saving benefits to you expand even further. All devices connected to the ETS service will be billed at the lower ETS rate. Other electricity used in your home, though, is billed at Adams Electric's normal rate schedule.
